Catfish Planet will walk your visitors through the world of catfishes by breaking it down into a series of relatable topics. In doing this your guests will learn the vast diversity of forms and life history traits that make this group so important.
Catfishes are fascinating creatures. One of the most striking things about this group is its size. They make up 34 % of all freshwater fish (41% of all fishes are freshwater). With almost three thousand described species so far, and another one to two thousand more believed to be awaiting description, this group provides a miniature view of the fish world as a whole.
Catfish Planet is an original creation of the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. We know of no other touring exhibit on catfish diversity is as exciting, educational and professional as Catfish Planet. |
