Spring is officially in the air and that means it is time to celebrate Earth Day at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium! Stop down to the River Museum on April 20 from 10 AM – 2 PM for the annual Party for the Planet, presented by Southwest Tech’s Sustainable Energy Management Program. General admission grants access to the day’s activities and visitors who bring canned food items will receive $5 off admission (one discount per transaction, unlimited number of canned items!) All donations will benefit the Dubuque Food Pantry.
“Who likes to party? We like to party… for the planet that is,” said Codi Sharkey, Conservation Programs Manager at the River Museum. “It’s a party for the whole family and we are excited to share the amazing work our conservation partners do with River Museum guests. Not only are we partying for the planet, but we are kicking off the celebration for the 100th anniversary for the Upper Mississippi Wildlife and Fish Refuge.”
Party for the Planet gives guests the opportunity to interact with local and regional partners in the Boatyard to learn about conservation programs, including a special presentation and exhibit in the Mississippi River Discovery Center by the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) on the 100th Anniversary of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. Make it a whole day at the River Museum and explore the exhibits on our 14-acre campus, including our newly-renovated Rivers to the Sea, as well as Creature Features, artifact chats, and activities in the Makerspace. Guests can also bring home yellow birch saplings, courtesy of Wagner Nursery.
97.7 WGLR will be onsite from 10 AM – 12 PM in the Mississippi River Center for a live radio broadcast. Other regularly scheduled activities like Behind the Scenes Tours, Stingray Feedings, and movies in the 4D Theater will still be available for purchase at the box office.
