Celebrate Independence Day at 54th annual Ice Cream Social

Dubuque, IowaThe Ice Cream Social at the Ham House, The Dubuque County Historical Society’s time-honored Independence Day celebration, returns on Tuesday, July 4.

The patriotic celebration takes place at the Mathias Ham House Historic Site, 2241 Lincoln Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can tour the rooms of the stately Ham House, experience frontier life at the Arriandeau Log House and Humke one-room school, listen to live music, participate in colonial activities, and hear the thunder of cannon fire. Free tours of the Ham House are also provided.

This year’s celebration will include traditional cakes and ice cream treats as well as delicious picnic food favorites such as brats, hot dogs, pulled pork, chips, soda, and lemonade available for purchase. The Ice Cream Social will also feature living history demonstrations and activities for children including Victorian games, crafts, and prizes.

Admission and house tours are free and open to the public; however, donations will be accepted. Proceeds will benefit the Mathias Ham House Historic Site, a property of the Dubuque County Historical Society.
