The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium will be hosting a birthday party for one of America’s most beloved bears on Friday, Aug. 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Smokey Bear was created by the U.S. Forest Service and the Ad Council on Aug. 9, 1944, to promote forest fire prevention. This year, Smokey will turn 75 years old and celebrate with friends and visitors at the River Museum. Special celebrity friends in attendance will include Yogi Bear, Woodsy Owl, Sparky the Dalmatian, and the River Museum’s very own Sippi the River Otter.
Staff from the City of Dubuque’s Fire Department will join in the fun with a fire truck. Birthday cupcakes, children’s activities, and meet and greets with Smokey Bear and friends are included with River Museum admission and will round out the day. For more information, visit rivermuseum.com/smokey.
