Spring Break Camps

Now with Virtual Reality!

Spring Break Day Camps provide children in kindergarten – 5th grade with fun, educational programs during the Dubuque Community School District's spring break (March 25-29).

Through NEW virtual reality experiences, your kids will explore out of this world locations like the ocean's depths, space, and even other museums around the world, in addition to live experiences on our 14-acre campus!

General Camp Information

Members must register and create a log in password to receive the member discount. This can be done after selecting a camp by clicking on the links in the upper right-hand corner of the page. Half day and full day options are available. Participants must bring a sack lunch for full day camps.

Wrap-around care is available at no additional charge. Morning wrap-around care is provided beginning at 7:30 a.m. Afternoon wrap-around care ends at 5 p.m. Wrap-around care hours are required at time of registration to ensure proper staffing.

Camps are divided by grade level with kindergarten - 2nd grade students in one section and 3rd - 5th grade students in another.

Session Times
  • Wrap-around hours run from 7:30 - 9 a.m. 
  • AM sessions run from 9 a.m. – noon. 
  • Lunch runs from noon - 1 p.m.
  • PM sessions run from 1 - 4 p.m.
  • Wrap-around hours run from 4 - 5 p.m.

Cost

Full Week, Full Day (includes wrap-around hours) - $180/non-member, $150/member
Per Session (includes morning or afternoon wrap-around hours) - $30/non-member, $25/member

Full Week Options (March 25 - 29, 2019)

Save up to $120 when you book a full week of camps! Kids will experience Astronomy, Space Exploration, Dinosaurs, Volcanoes, Think Like a Keeper, Art Smart, Ocean Safari, Deep Sea Divers, Locomotion, and Skyscrapers for one great price, including virtual reality experiences aligned with each theme! Monday (March 25)
Astronomy (AM Session)

Uncover the mysteries of the night sky as we explore our position in the universe and discover what stars, moons, and planets really are. We’ll use virtual reality to enjoy the aurora borealis and travel to places throughout the solar system.

Space Exploration (PM Session)

Experience the life of an astronaut and join NASA on expeditions to the International Space Station. We’ll use virtual reality to visit the Kennedy Space Center, follow a rocket from assembly to launch, and tour the International Space Station.

Tuesday (March 26)
Dinosaurs (AM Session)

Did you know that more than 99% of all the species that ever lived on Earth are extinct? Travel back in time to explore the world of dinosaurs and learn about these amazing creatures from the past. We'll use virtual reality to come face-to-face with dinosaurs that roamed this planet more than 200 million years ago.

Volcanoes (PM Session)

Volcanoes have shaped more than 80% of our planet’s surface. We’ll use virtual reality to explore volcanoes inside and out and discover what makes them so explosive.

Wednesday (March 27)
Think like a Keeper (AM Session)

Have you ever wondered why certain animals at the Museum & Aquarium have toys?  We’ll learn how our aquarists care for the animals and create toys to help our animal ambassadors stay active and healthy. We’ll also use virtual reality to shadow a seal trainer in Connecticut and look behind the scenes at the Denver Zoo.

Art Smart (PM Session)

The Earth without art is just “Eh!” Pull inspiration from famous works of art and create your own masterpieces to take home. We’ll use virtual reality to travel far and wide in search of statues, paintings, and sculptures.

Thursday (March 28)
Ocean Safari (AM Session)

The ocean covers more than 70% of Earth’s surface and is teeming with life! Make a visit to the Conservation Lab in the Museum & Aquarium. Then use virtual reality to swim with sea turtles, sharks, and rays on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Deep Sea Divers (PM Session)

Did you know more people have been to space than to the bottom of the ocean? Descend with us to some of the least studied places on our planet and look for cuttlefish, frill sharks, angler fish, and giant squid in the deep ocean. We’ll use virtual reality to spend time aboard a research vessel and explore life in the deep ocean.

Friday (March 29)
Locomotion (AM Session)

We’ll take to the land, the sea, and the sky as we design, engineer, and test our own vehicles. We’ll use virtual reality to explore the physics of flight, the birth of the railways, and how cars work.

Skyscrapers (PM Session)

Come build with us!  We’ll explore the world’s tallest structures, design our own blueprints, and bring our ideas to life.  We’ll use virtual reality to chase Carmen Sandiego around the world’s skyscrapers and enjoy the view from the very top.
