The River Museum invites Home School Families to visit on Thursday, April 11 for a special Home School Day. Home School Families will spend the day exploring the form and function of our animal ambassadors. Home School families will receive a discount on admission and special educational programs. April is the perfect month to explore the diversity of reptiles and amphibians in the Mid-West. Students will be treated to two special programs and a self-guided activity designed to address form and function of different animals in our collection.
Our first special program at 11 a.m. introduces students to a variety of live reptile and amphibian animal ambassadors, exploring the variety of adaptations these animals have developed to survive in their habitats and what makes them different from other animals around the world.
Our second special program at 1 p.m. will introduce students to the world of citizen science through FrogWatch USA. FrogWatch USA is the Association of Zoos and Aquarium’s (AZA) citizen science program and provides individuals, groups, and families opportunities to learn about wetlands in their communities by reporting via a national data base on the calls of local frogs and toads.
