The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium will celebrate its 16th Annual Ice Fest presented by Dupaco Community Credit Union.

Ice Fest is included with general admission and the 2020 event will feature three days of winter-themed activities including ice harvesting, ice rescue demonstrations, Alaskan Malamutes, IPTV Kids Club’s Dan Wardell and his friend Curious George, snow sculpting, art projects, Sid the Science Kid, live animals, a KCRG-TV9 Weather Academy, outdoor and indoor programming, movies, and more.

All activities will be held inside the Mississippi River Center, the Boat Shop, on the William M. Black, and in the Boatyard. Schedule is subject to change.

Ice Fest is sponsored by Dupaco Community Credit Union, Casey’s General Store and Skyline. Special media and in-kind support is provided by KCRG-TV9, Sundown Mountain & Resort and Diamond Jo Casino.

Saturday, Jan. 18, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Theme: Nature)

  • 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Special appearances by Sid the Science Kid in the Sid the Science Kid: The Super-Duper Exhibit!
  • 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m.: Bird house building in the Boat Shop (addt. fee)
  • 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m.: Fish print, animal print, and button activities indoors
  • 10:30 a.m.:            Focus on Furs interpretation and blubber activity
  • 10:30 a.m.:            Journey Theater showing Epic Yellowstone: Fire and Ice
  • 11 a.m.-3 p.m.:       Outdoor activities including a fire pit, s’mores, and snow sculpting (snow sculpting heavily dependent on weather)
  • 11 a.m.:                  Water rescue demonstration with the Dubuque Fire Department near boathouse
  • 11:30 a.m.:             Creature Feature – get up close to one of the River Museum’s Animal Ambassadors
  • 11:30 a.m.:             Journey Theater showing Epic Yellowstone: Down the River Wild
  • 11:30 a.m.:             Ice harvesting demonstration near boathouse
  • 11:30 a.m.:             Tour of the William M. Black (Meet at box office in Mississippi River Center)
