Home School Days

Home School Days

Homeschool families are invited to attend Home School Days on designated dates throughout the school year. Participants will enjoy programs that include hands-on activities. 

Programming is available for students in third through eighth grade and intended to fit within homeschool curriculum. Parents or chaperones must accompany children for Home School Days programs.

Registration is required for each session. Price per program is just $5/member student, $12.50/non-member student. Adults/chaperones are FREE/member and $12.50/non-member. Non-member prices include general admission for the day. Discounts are available for members and non-members registering for all five programs.

Members save $37.50 per child on the entire series!

Membership Discounts

Members must register and create a log in password to receive the member discount. This can be done after selecting a session by clicking on the links in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The membership discount will be applied when you go click "Add to Cart."

What's in Your Water

Become a water quality scientist and learn how to evaluate water quality! We will collect water samples to do chemical testing (pH, Nitrates, dissolved oxygen, etc.) as well as survey aquatic macroinvertebrates to determine the health of the wetland at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium.

Explore the magic of fall and participate in pioneer activities like corn cob darts, apple pressing and more.

Let's Rock!

Get hands-on with rocks and fossils! We'll also explore the connection between mining and Dubuque's history.

Discovering Bones

Predator or Prey? Herbivore, Omnivore, Carnivore? Become a detective by examining animal skulls up-close. Use the information you gather to identify skulls and use clues to figure out how that animal survives!

Citizen Science: Wings & Things

Become a scientist from your own home! There are lots of citizen science programs that students can participate in. We will conduct a survey of the outdoor space at the River Museum to practice observing wildlife and recording data that can be submitted to a project.
