Home School Days

Home School Days

Homeschool families are invited to attend Home School Days on designated dates throughout the school year. Participants will enjoy programs that include hands on activities and are available for all age levels on each scheduled day. Families will enjoy the historic and STEM-based programs that will fit home school curriculum.  Parents or chaperones must accompany children for Home School Days programs.

Registration is required for each session. Prices are listed below.

Members must register and create a log in password to receive the member discount. This can be done after selecting a registration session and clicking the links located on the upper right-hand corner of the registration page.

Pioneer Day at the Mathias Ham Historic Site

The Mathias Ham Historic Site, 2241 Lincoln Ave, Dubuque, IA 52001

Experience frontier life through hands-on activities such as candle making, laundry, outdoor games, and hanky doll making. Tours of the Ham House are available every half-hour and interpreters will be providing information at the lead mine, schoolhouse, and log cabin.

Birds of a Feather: Bird Adaptations, Flight, Navigation, & Migration

(Each program time will repeat and have a session for older and younger children)

From their amazing adaptations to the physics of flight, navigation, and migration, two programs will focus on the amazing traits birds have that allow them to survive in nearly every ecosystem on Earth. An art and craft project is also included in the day's events.

Settling the Driftless

Learn all about the settlement of the Driftless area (which includes portions of Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota) and how this region developed. Topics covered will include Native American settlements, furs, lead mining, the connection between button-making and mussels, fire starting, and boat building.
