River Museum announces arrival of baby shark

After weeks of anticipation, the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium is excited to announce the hatching of a Coral Catshark in our Conservation Lab on Mar. 15. It is the first shark born at the Museum & Aquarium and is the newest member of our animal ambassador team.

At a time when shark populations worldwide are threatened due to human activity, this shark pup will help spread a message of hope,” said Andy Allison, Director of Living Collections at the River Museum. “Conservation facilities affiliated with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums are working around the country and throughout the world to help save shark species.”

The new shark will be on display in the River Museum’s Conservation Lab for the immediate future as staff closely monitor its health. More details will be released over the coming weeks.
