The Dubuque County Historical Society (DCHS) has announced that it will be launching a new initiative called Hindsight 2020, a community collecting initiative to document and preserve the events of 2020 and beyond as experienced by the Dubuque County area.
DCHS is asking that residents of Dubuque County donate materials related to the events of 2020 and early 2021. The organization hopes that by collecting items from the general public it can preserve and interpret the diverse and unique stories of local residents during this historic time. From a global pandemic that affected every facet of life, to the murder of George Floyd and the expansion of the Black Lives Matter movement, to an election unlike any other, materials from all parts of life in 2020 will be considered.
“The year 2020 was like no other time in history. The hugely significant events of that year will be with us for a long time to come. Hindsight 2020 is our attempt to capture the history that was made right before our eyes,” says Cristin Waterbury, Director of Curatorial Services. “This initiative will exemplify an open commitment to diversity, inclusion, and community engagement, carefully embodying the stories of Dubuque county residents throughout this historic time.”
