River Museum plans a “Taste” of something familiar

Plans are underway by the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium to bring back a modified version of Taste of Dubuque this summer. The temporarily reformatted Taste of Summer series is planned for the first Thursday in June, July, and August from 6-9 p.m. and will enable attendees to enjoy a less crowded event experience while still providing the original event’s signature tastes and entertainment.

Taste of Summer will be located behind the gates in the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium’s boatyard and plaza areas. Attendees are asked to follow the City of Dubuque mask mandate and encouraged to bring their own lawn chair or blanket as a limited number of picnic tables will be provided. Ample free parking is available in the public lots outside the River Museum. Capacity will be monitored throughout the evening to allow for social distancing.

“We look forward to hosting the event on our campus grounds this year,” said Wendy Scardino, director of marketing and communications. “Each evening will feature two live bands and four to five food vendors providing an array of savory dishes and sweet desserts.”

In keeping with the Taste tradition, a modified series of awards will be announced each evening for the top savory dish, the top sweet dish, and a fan favorite dish or dessert selected by the attendees.

Taste of Summer is open to all ages and is free to attend. Both beverage sales and freewill donations will support the River Museum’s conservation efforts to save endangered species.

“Museums were hit hard during the pandemic, but so too were restaurants and those who make a living performing,” Scardino went on to say. “Taste means a bit more this year as we look to feature so many local small businesses and performers.”

A tentative schedule of food vendors and bands is included below. These may be subject to change and any changes will be posted to www.rivermuseum.com/taste and @rivermuseum Facebook account.
